Here you can complete your housing application and deposit, submit a variety of forms, and see important updates. We encourage you to visit this page regularly to stay up to date with all things Residence Life and Housing related.
A student’s residential experience is considered an integral part of your education and your time at BHSU, offering important opportunities for engagement with your community. Students are required to live on campus (BOR Policy 3.7.1) for the first two years after your high school graduation.

There is a 2 week move hold at the beginning of each semester. Moves approved by the CD or ACD are allowed during this time. Moves are contingent on available space and on a “first come, first served basis.” There is a $100 Move Charge for all moves that happen after the 4th week of the semester.

housing appeals

Residence Life often get questions about appealing to live off-campus. While we want you to live on campus, participate in the vibrant campus community, and reap all the benefits of being close to campus resources, we understand that everyone's situation is different.

BHSU Residence Life allows students to appeal the South Dakota Board of Regents 2-year live-on requirement. Please see below for further information:

Appeals for current students OPEN on April 1, 2024, and CLOSE on May 3, 2024.

The Housing Appeal form, additional information, and supplemental documentation forms can be found on our Housing Appeals webpage.

Exemption Statuses: 1. Married Students
2. Students with legal dependents
3. Commuter (students living at home within 35 driving miles)
4. Financial hardship
5. Physical/Mental health

Please allow up to two (2) weeks for a decision. Decision letters are sent to your student email account ("@yellowjackets.bhsu.edu").

Students are allowed to submit two separate appeals.

Do not sign anything (e.g., a lease) until you receive a decision about your appeal. BOR Policy dictates that we place room and board charges on all students who fall under the live-on requirement.

If you have other questions, please see the FAQ tab on the appeals page.
